Area Law Enforcement
Roughly 50 vehicles have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Automobiles, exterior walls and mailboxes were marked, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they reported in a release.
Officers state they were alerted late on Wednesday evening, when a man noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored fluid.
The liquid had been drawn in the form of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Officers then located many other smeared vehicles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under laws banning the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials state preliminary tests suggest the fluid was likely human blood.
"There is still no clue as to where it came from; investigators are presently not cognizant of any injuries in association with the incident," they stated.
City officials said they were attempting "to solve the incident" and have requested to the public for details.
A senior official said the vandalism made him speechless and had to be solved quickly.
"This incident hits the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the right-wing attack five years ago," he stated on social media, referring to the death of nine people by a assailant targeting residents of foreign heritage in February 2020.
